Fashion History: The Great Couturiers

The RealReal

80 Wooster Street
New York, NY 10012
United States

Fashion historians consider the decade after WWII to be the Golden Age of Couture. Across the globe sophisticated, feminine post-war fashions symbolized a return to happier times. Many of the iconic designs were based on more than ethereal ideas of beauty - they were garments built upon serious architecture. In an age before wardrobe malfunctions, some designers were known for making the garment shape the body, not the other way around. Join The RealReal's resident Fashion Historian, Lisa Santandrea, to discuss three such visionaries: Christian Dior, Charles James and Cristobal Balenciaga (whom Dior called, "the master of us all.")
