Award-winning storyteller and Huffington Post blogger Leslie Goshko hosts a curated evening of original poetic works that's sure to Kick Assonance! Join co-creators Kyle Erickson ("Enduro's Lament") and Steven Leyva ("Low Parish") as they welcome fellow authors Kevin Carter, Miracle Jones, and J. Hope Stein for an evening of original poetry and prose that Time Out New York magazine named a "Critics' Pick."
Kyle Erickson is co-creator of the poetry series Kick Assonance, which has been noted by the Poetry Foundation, The Academy of American Poets, hailed as a "Critics' Pick" by Time Out New York Magazine, and called "a notable New York Event" by The Rumpus. Kyle's work can be read in This Land Press, Promethia, B'More Poetic, and on his blog, www.okieinthecity.com, which was heralded as a "Top 101 New York Blog." His chapbook, Enduro's Lament, was released in 2012.
Steven Leyva was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Houston, Texas. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in 2 Bridges Review, The Fiddleback, The Light Ekphrastic, The Cobalt Review, and Little Patuxent Review. He is a Cave Canem fellow, the winner of the 2012 Cobalt Review Poetry Prize, and author of the chapbook Low Parish. Steven holds an MFA from the University of Baltimore, where he teaches in the undergraduate writing program.
John Foti is a songwriter/musician from northern New Jersey. He still lives in New Jersey on purpose (Dan Zanes & Friends, Stuckey & Murray, Elena Moon Park, Improbable Theare's "The Devil and Mr. Punch").
Kevin Carter is a writer, technologist, and musician whose work has been featured in Luna Luna Magazine, MAKE, The Fiction Circus, and 2600 Magazine, among others. His first collection of short stories, Lives of the Saints (www.livesofthesaintsbook.com), was published by The Fiction Circus in 2012, and he lives and plays the laser harp in Manhattan. Comfort Cat plays violin, ukulele, and a few other things, and likes collaborating and recording with other musicians, artists, writers, dancers, and whoever else likes violinists. She has released a short album entitled sniff (2014) (comfortcat.bandcamp.com), and you can listen to other recordings on SoundCloud (soundcloud.com/comfortcat). She has a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College (2011) and an M.A. in Songwriting from Bath Spa University in the U.K. (2014). By day she works as a freelance SEO writer. Tami performs as "Comfort Cat" because of how comforting it is to hug a cat.
Miracle Jones is from Texas. He is a very private person.
J. Hope Stein is the author of experimental chapbooks Corner Office (H-ngm-n B-ks, 2012), Talking DolI (Dancing Girl Press, 2012) and Mary (Hyacinth Girl Press, 2012). She is the Associate Producer of the film Sleepwalk with Me (2012) and Consulting Producer of the film Don't Think Twice (2016) which just finished shooting in New York City. She is also the author of the poetry/humor site eecattings.com (but she'll never admit it in person) and is PoetryCrush.com.
